The HTS code is the key to every number in a DDP quote for fittings. It sets the base duty, decides whether Section 232 applies and identifies the AD/CVD orders that may cover the product.
Heading 7307: fittings of iron or steel

Other materials
- 7412 — copper tube or pipe fittings (copper and brass, including solder and press fittings).
- 7609 — aluminium tube or pipe fittings (for example aluminium camlocks).
- 3917.40 — plastic fittings (PVC, CPVC, PEX).
- Valves are not fittings. They fall under heading 8481.
Duties that can stack in 2026
- Base (MFN) duty — usually low for fittings.
- Section 232 — steel derivative annexes list 7307 fittings, and copper fittings (7412) have been covered since August 2025. Since 6 April 2026 the duty applies to the full customs value at the annex rate. The same change for aluminium is explained in aluminium landed cost.
- Section 301 — many Chinese-origin fittings carry additional Section 301 duties.
- Country-level duties — see US tariffs in 2026. Check whether they stack with Section 232.
- AD/CVD deposits where an order applies — see AD on fittings.
- Fees: MPF and, for ocean cargo, HMF.
Classification tips that save money (legally)
- Describe each line precisely: material, connection type (threaded, socket-weld, butt-weld, grooved), size and pressure class.
- Split invoices by HTS code and origin. Mixed lines lead to holds and the highest rate being applied.
- Consider a binding ruling from CBP for high-volume, uncertain items.
- Never misdescribe fittings as "parts" or "valve parts" to avoid Section 232 or AD — the penalties far exceed the savings.
