For cargo between Ho Chi Minh City and Phnom Penh, the first decision is whether to book the whole truck or share it. The right choice can halve your cost per kilogram — or save a day in transit.
Side by side
| FTL (full truck) | LTL (shared truck) | |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing | Per truck | Per kg or m³ (whichever is higher) |
| Departure | When you are ready | On scheduled consolidation days |
| Transit | Direct, fastest | May include extra stops and handling |
| Customs | Your declaration only | A problem with another shipper's cargo can delay the truck |
| Best for | Large orders, fragile or urgent goods | Small, regular shipments |
Finding your break-even
Multiply your weight or volume by the LTL rate and compare it with the price of the smallest truck that fits your cargo. Once the cargo fills roughly half or more of a small truck, FTL often becomes competitive — and you gain speed and control.
Practical examples
- Five cartons of samples: LTL or courier.
- Three pallets of consumer goods, weekly: LTL with a fixed weekly schedule.
- Six tonnes of building materials: FTL on an 8–10-tonne truck.
- Electronics worth a lot per kg: FTL for security, even if not full.
