Vietnam has a large aluminium processing industry, supplying extrusions for construction, solar mounting systems, furniture frames, ladders and household goods. Shipping these products to the US involves three key questions: which duties apply, how to prove origin, and how to move long or delicate profiles safely.
Main product groups
| Group | Examples | Logistics note |
|---|---|---|
| Extrusions and profiles | Bars, tubes, window and door profiles | Long lengths; surface protection |
| Building products | Windows, doors, curtain wall, railings | Fragile glass components; crating |
| Finished consumer goods | Ladders, cookware, outdoor furniture | Retail packaging; e-commerce delivery |
Duties to check
- Section 232 aluminium tariffs on aluminium and listed derivative products — see Section 232 for aluminium.
- Base HTS duty and any country-specific additional duties.
- AD/CVD exposure, especially for extrusions — see origin and circumvention.
Shipping options
- 20' containers for profiles up to about 5.9 m; 40' for up to about 12 m.
- Longer pieces require open-top or flat-rack containers — see packing aluminium.
- LCL for smaller orders of finished goods.
